BOYKINS—George Crawford Scott Jr., 80, died April 24, 2008, with his family by his side.

Mr. Scott was a longtime resident of Southampton County, he was a son of the late George Crawford and Lorena Beale Scott.

He was a former member of the U. S. Coast Guard and was longtime owner of the former Phillips 66 Service Station and Scott’s Mini Mart in Boykins.

He was the Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #287 AF&FM, a member of Boykins Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Franklin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and an honorary member of the Branchville Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of Boykins Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Erma Newsome Scott; a daughter, Lou Ann Scott Vann and husband Jimmy of Franklin; a son, Dr. George C. Scott III and wife Bolling of Midlothian; a sister, Sarah Dunlow of Plant City, Fla.; three brothers, Claude, “LL”, and Jack Scott, all of Emporia; and four grandchildren, Anne Randolph Scott, Ford Scott IV, Byrum Vann and Emily Vann.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Dillard and Edith Osborn.

A graveside funeral, with Masonic Rites, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beechwood Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating.
