NEWPORT NEWS—Alberta Turner Johnson, died April 18, 2008.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Southampton County Sept. 22, 1938.

She later moved to New Jersey in 1958 and returned to Newport News in 1974.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Edwards; husband, Willie Johnson; brother, Douglass Turner; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Richardson.

Survivors include her children, Mary Mitchell (Randolph), William Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Arnita Moore (Reginald), Vincent Johnson (Carla), Sheldon Johnson and Debra Gwaltney (Andre’), all of Newport News; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, James Turner (Frances) of Smithfield; sisters, Mildred Redmond of Washington,

D.C., Dannetha Turner of Newport News and Lillian Weaver of Chesapeake; special cousins, William and Ron Turner, both of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service was held Thursday at Beulah Tabernacle, 5862 Orcutt Ave., Newport News.

Interment followed at Greenlawn Cemetery.

M.E. Fisher Funeral Home, 2117 Madison Ave., Newport News, was in charge of arrangements.
