CHESAPEAKE—Evelyn Bond Benson, 88, died April 14, 2008.

Mrs. Benson was a native of Portsmouth, a Methodist and a member of the Nansmond Tribal Association.

She was the widow of the late Huie Ellis Benson Sr.

Survivors include her son, Huie E. Benson Jr.; three granddaughters, Ella E. Benson of Suffolk, Elicia Koonce and husband Brian, Evelyn B. Houtz and husband Daniel; great- grandchildren, Madison, Camden and Jensyn Koonce; three sisters, Edythe Carter of Windsor, Marjore Winninghan of Blackstone and Meta Mowry of Gloucester; and a brother, Alvin Bond of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Loving Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul William Parker Jr. with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
