Ban all plastic grocery bags

To The Editor:

I applaud Farm Fresh for doing away with plastic bags.

Yes, they are a little more carry-friendly than paper bags, but at least paper bags do not take four years to deteriorate.

Seventy-five percent of the trash you see on Southampton County roads is plastic bags.

They are in the fields, the trees and I pick up hundreds per year in the river where they are a danger to wildlife.

They also will really cause a mess if one gets

around your trolling motor. Believe me, I know.

I wish the darn things

would get banned altogether.

The alternative would be to make them biodegradable.

In fact, it would be nice if bags, drink bottles, cups and food containers would just melt away after being exposed to the elements, say, in four months.

Good job, Farm Fresh.
