HUNTERDALE—The Franklin Woman’s Club once again had a successful Dessert Card Party and Silent Auction.
Proceeds from the fund-raiser, which was held at the Cypress Cove Country Club, benefited the Southeastern Virginia Alzheimer’s Association, Franklin branch.
“We still haven’t collected on all of the items sold,” said Club Treasurer Elizabeth Johnson. “We’ll make a presentation, probably around the first of next week (to the Alzheimer’s Association).”
Approximately 85 people attended the event. Eighteen tables were occupied by players of cards and Mah Jongg.
The club has been holding this fund-raiser for years, however, prior proceeds have gone to Operation Smile.
“We’ve had so many club members who have had Alzheimer’s, or have had family or friends with the disease,” Johnson said. “It became sort of our passion among the members to help out.
“We had already been giving something to Alzheimer’s during the year, and we understand that the money stays in our area. We know there’s a need for it.”
