Thieves target Newsoms post office

NEWSOMS—Investigators with the U.S. Postal Service and the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office are working together to identify suspects in a recent burglary at the Newsoms Post Office.

Bill Aiello, a postal inspector from Richmond, said Thursday that police have no suspects yet.

He would not say what was stolen from the building, but noted that the Jan. 25 burglary &uot;did not affect any postal customers.&uot;

County deputies responded to the scene near midnight to find that the office and sorting area of the South Main Street building had been broken into, according to Detective Cpl. Richard T. Morris, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Aiello said the Postal Service is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
