FRANKLIN—Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Rainey announce the engagement of their daughter, Eliza Brooks Rainey of Chapel Hill, N.C., to David James Pearson of Chapel Hill.

Rainey is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Thomas Pond Jr. of Suffolk and the late Rev. and Mrs. L.J. Rainey of Asheboro, N.C.

Pearson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Martin Pearson of Grand Marais, Minn. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Kawczynski and Ruth Krause

and the late Paul Pearson.

Rainey is a graduate of Franklin High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She is in her second year of law school at UNC.

Pearson is a graduate of Cook County High School.

He attended the University of Minnesota and is a student at the University of North Carolina.

A May wedding is planned.
