FRANKLIN-State Police on Friday said reckless driving was to blame in the death of a 56-year-old Farmville dump truck driver.

State Police spokesperson Sgt. Michelle Cotten said Vincent Wayne Jackson was driving his 2006 International truck in the southbound lane of Route 258 south of Franklin at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday when the truck left the road, hit an embankment and flipped. Jackson was ejected from the cab. He was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m. at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

The wreck occurred about a mile south of Sycamore Church Road near Kingsdale in the southeastern corner of Southampton County.

Cotton said she was did not know who owned the truck.

Jackson would have turned 57 on Jan. 29.

The highway was closed in both directions while emergency crews worked to remove the wreckage and the load of rocks Jackson was hauling.

Trooper S.W. Sterling conducted the investigation for the State Police.
