ISLE OF WIGHT—A Hampton man is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond following his arrest Wednesday in Carrollton on drug charges.

James P. Blockett, 25, of Redwood Street in Hampton, was arrested on Carrollton Boulevard after police observed him conducting what they believed was a drug transaction, according to Sft. M.R. Kitchen of the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office.

Kitchen said investigators had already been looking for Blockett in connection with two outstanding warrants for distributing cocaine when they spotted him at a business in the 15000 block of Carrollton Boulevard.

While the man was under surveillance, Kitchen said, police believed him to be involved in a drug deal. They pulled him over as he was driving toward the James River Bridge, and they seized several grams of a substance thought to be crack cocaine during an ensuing search.

Blockett was ultimately charged with three counts of distributing cocaine, second or subsequent offense, along with traffic offenses.
