Lady Raiders stay hot, go 6-0

SOUTHAMPTON—The Southampton Academy Lady Raiders continued their dominance over their opponents as they beat the visiting Christchurch School Lady Seahorses 56-47 on Friday night. The Lady Raiders improved their record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the VCC.
The Lady Raiders played strong the whole night as they got out to an early 33-24 halftime lead and held onto the 9 point lead the entire game. Both teams scored 23 total points in the second half.
The Lady Raiders were led by a tremendous 30 point effort by Sophomore Gabby Gatten. Senior Sarah McFarland had 13 points. Sophomore Lindsay Raulston had 10 points. Eigth grader Emma Fretts had 2 points. Sophomore Forrest Best had 1 point.
The Lady Seahorses were led by Madeleine Pryzbol who finished the game with 26 points. Sarah Jones had 8 points. Ragan Hart had 7 points. Kaylee Oliver had 4 points. Catherine Harris had 2 points.
After the game Lady Raiders head coach Burdette Gatten said, “With the different exam schedule these girls having to endure, I am extremely pleased we could pull out a win against such a strong team. The girls were tired and a little flat but they were still able to win. Gabby had her best offensive performance of the season with 30 points and I am very proud of her. Sarah and Lindsay played strong to secure a big win.”
The Lady Raiders travel to Powatan on Wednesday with the boys’ teams to play Blessed-Sacrament Huguenot. The varsity contests start around 6 p.m.
