Thelma J. Newby

SUFFOLK—Thelma Linda Joyce Newby, formerly of Isle of Wight County and of 326 York St., died Dec. 20, 2007, in Autumn Care of Suffolk.
Mrs. Newby was predeceased by her parents, William Luther Crocker and Thelma Stagg, and her brothers William C. Crocker and Andrew L. Crocker.
She was a former cosmetologist at Princess Beauty Salon where she worked for many years and was a former member of the Mt. Calvary Holiness Church, in Smithfield.
Survivors include her husband, James T. Newby Sr. and her four children, Patrina Newby, James Newby Jr. and Corey Newby, all of Suffolk and William Crocker of Modesto, Calif.; two sisters, Catherine Crocker of Windsor and Clarine Staplefoot (Paul) of Lexington, N.C.; sisters-in-law Sandra Brown of Portsmouth, Mary E. Brown of Chesapeake, Ruth E. Crocker of Suffolk; brother-in-law Robert Anderson of Windsor; four grandchildren, Diamond Newby, Byron Zakiya Newby, Xzybre Savage and TyJanae Newby (Little Lucy); her aunts Bertha Powel, of Suffolk, and Ruth Harrison of Lexington; one uncle. James Stagg of Baltimore, Md.; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
A homegoing service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home Inc.
Burial will be immediately following the service at Christian Home Church Cemetery, Chuckatuck.
The family will receive friends at the home of Patrina Newby, 326 York St., Suffolk and will assemble there on Friday at 12:15 p.m. for the funeral processional.
Visitation will begin
Thursday at Harris Funeral Home Inc. 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk, at 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
