YORKTOWN—Shirley Patricia Caldwell Hansbrough, 62, died Dec. 22, 2007.

Mrs. Hansbrough was born in Blacksburg, to her late parents, Ralph and Lutitia Caldwell, and spent most of her life on the Peninsula.

She was an accomplished craftsperson in cross stitching and collected handmade baskets and teddy bears of all varieties.

She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hampton, having served as a member of council, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

She was active in her community, serving as President of the Hampton Junior Women’s Club and on the board of the Girl’s Club of Hampton.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Andrew Jerry Hansbrough of Yorktown and her sons, Andrew K. Hansbrough and wife Mary of Blacksburg, Michael E. Hansbrough and wife Tracy of Newport News and Sean C. Hansbrough, a junior at Virginia Tech; her four cherished granddaughters, Alyssa, Madysen, Erin and Kayla; her brother, Ralph S. Caldwell and wife Ruth; and sister, Brenda Ealy and husband Roger of Smithfield.

We will always love and cherish her in our hearts. The family requests that memorials be made to either the organ fund of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hampton or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
