Paying for supervisors#8217; health care is thoughtless

To the Editor:

I was very disturbed to learn that the Southampton County Board of Supervisors felt that the county should pay for their health insurance and also for that of

their families.

I wonder sometimes when they are making decisions, are they made with the “me, myself and I decision,” or maybe we have not walked in another’s shoes

before deciding, or have we thought about the long-standing rule that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us?

I am a citizen of Franklin, but I am interested in the welfare of the people in the county. I taught school for several years in the county, and I have known many county residents. I always found them to be loyal, caring, loving people. They are interested in helping each other and want what is best for the county.

I am certain each member of the county Board of Supervisors can pay for his/her own health insurance and that of their families.

Surely, with some of the county’s residents who

cannot afford health insurance, search your hearts to see if it would make you happy for them to help pay for your health insurance with the taxes they pay.

It is worth pondering.
