VIRGINIA BEACH—William M. Campbell Jr., 77, died Dec. 9, 2007.
Mr. Campbell retired from the Virginia Beach Office of Public Defender as an investigator after more than 20 years.
Before that he worked for Dick Bridges, Atty. (later Bridges & Broyles Law Firm) where he investigated civil and criminal matters and helped prepare cases for trial. In his early years he had been an officer on the Portsmouth and Virginia Beach police departments and had been a photographer for The Portsmouth Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Geri C. Wilkins and her husband Doug of Virginia Beach and Linda C. Farrington and her husband Gary of Smithfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Campbell.
He was a member of Thalia United Methodist Church and had served on the State Board as a director of the American Red Cross. He was a recipient of the Public Defender Investigator of the Year National Award and the Liberty Bell Award.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thalia United Methodist Church by Pastor Arthur M. Wolz.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling arrangements.
