Dora V. Rodgerson

WINDSOR—Dora V. Rodgerson, 79, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 4, 2007, in Sentara Obici Hospital after a valiant battle with leukemia.
Mrs. Rodgerson was born in Monroe, N.C., June 24, 1928. She graduated from Prospect High School with the Class of 1945. She was married for 54 joyful years to Dewey A. Rodgerson, who predeceased her Dec. 18, 2002. They lived in Norfolk for nearly 50 years before retiring to Windsor.
Mrs. Rodgerson was a devout and kind Christian who walked her faith her entire life. As a member of Windsor Baptist Church and former member of Ingleside Baptist Church in Norfolk, she sang in the choir, played piano and taught in children’s Sunday school. Her many talents and interests included caring for her family, gardening, crafts and music. In addition, she encouraged and comforted countless patients at Norfolk General Hospital for 30 years as a volunteer.
She is survived by her four loving daughters, Susan R. Kidd and husband Tom of Norfolk, Dianne L. Lindsey of Norfolk, Carol A. Olah and husband John of Virginia Beach and Dawn R. Johnson and husband Ken of Windsor; seven grandsons, Staff Sgt. Rob Lindsey of California, Noel Kidd, Brian Lindsey, Eric Lindsey and Evan Kidd, all of Norfolk, Spc. Barry Olah and wife Danielle of Fayetteville N.C., and Aaron Olah of Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter V. B. and Susan Laney Gulledge; daughter, Lynda Gaye Rodgerson; son-in-law, Bob Lindsey; five sisters and three brothers.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. today in Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, 2460 Pruden Blvd., Suffolk, conducted by the Rev. Bryan Brooks.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk.
