COURTLAND—Betty Davis Joyner, 80, widow of Otis Moore Joyner Jr., died Dec. 1, 2007.

A lifelong resident of Courtland, she was a daughter of the late Ezra W. and Anna Gillette Davis.

Mrs. Joyner was a graduate of James Madison University and retired from teaching after 30 years.

She was a member of the Southampton County Historical Society, Courtland Bridge Club, and Courtland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Karan J. Hodges and husband Mark of Courtland; two grandsons, Timmy and Jason Hodges; and

one sister, Anna Davis Thweatt of Richmond.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary D. Gilbert, Jane D. Colglazier, Virginia D. Watkinson, and three brothers, Garland, Gillette, and William Davis.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Courtland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gordon officiating.

Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Courtland United Methodist Church, 22416 Main Street, Courtland, Va. 23837.

Wright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
