Disturbing Mother Nature

We see it all the time in this part of the country: Man bothers Mother Natures, and Mother Nature has something to say about it, and the words are usually unkind.

In this case, Man’s quest to produce more lumber to build houses, or schools or stores has displaced members of the wildlife, forcing them into unfamiliar territory, crossing paths with Man and his world.

There have been eight reported cases of rabies in Isle of Wight County this year — three in the last two months. Frankly, we’re a little surprised there hasn’t been more.

One theory is that logging efforts in areas of the county have forced wildlife from their homes, venturing onto foreign grounds. They come in contact with Man, and Man needs to keeps his eyes open.
