Thurman T. Hoke Jr.

VIRGINIA BEACH—Thurman Theodore Hoke Jr., 58, died Nov. 21, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Hoke was born Oct. 30, 1949, to Thurman T. Hoke Sr. and Hazel Hoke in Lincolnton, N.C.

He served our country proudly for more than 20 years serving in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army and continued his military career in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a senior chief petty officer.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was an accomplished guitarist, with a passion for bluegrass, country and mountain folk music.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Cecilia Kay Hoke; mother, Hazel Hoke; three sons, Kris and wife Mandy, Matt and wife Alison, all of Virginia Beach, and Zac and wife Summer of Wakefield; four grandchildren, Aubrey Hoke, Eliana Hoke, Kaleb Hoke and Amelia Hoke; two sisters, Mary Wooten and husband Henry of South Carolina and Jean Dowdle of North Carolina; and one brother, Randall Hoke.

He was preceded in death by this father, Thurman T. Hoke Sr.

Per his request, a small family gathering celebrating Thurman’s life was held in lieu of formal services.
