KITTY HAWK, N.C.—Joseph Leroy Dail Jr., 65, died Nov. 23, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Dail was born in Franklin, the son of the late Joseph Leroy and Annie Worrell Dail and reared in Newsoms.

He was a graduate of Southampton High School, attended East Carolina University, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.

He was a former relief pitcher in the Chicago White Sox organization.

He was retired from the Technical Department of Union Camp Corporation and was a former realtor. He was a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

He was very involved in community affairs, having served on the board of Paul D. Camp Community College, the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, and the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce.

An avid golfer, he helped organize many charity golf tournaments. He was a former basketball coach at Southampton Academy in Courtland, a former YMCA basketball coach in Franklin, and was a former member of the Courtland Ruritan Club.

He was chairman of the clean-up committee of downtown Franklin after the flood from Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Lannie Gene Gardner Dail; one daughter, Dee Larion and husband Ken; one son, J. Michael Dail and wife Amy; five grandchildren, Victoria Dail, Jacob Larion, Kelsey Honeycutt, Deanna Larion, and Kyle Honeycutt.

A funeral was conducted at Monday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. 4th Ave., Franklin, Va. 23851, with the Dr. John Check officiating.

Burial followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 900, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.
