Bessie H. Evans

WINDSOR—Bessie Hill Evans died Nov. 22, 2007, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1935, in Southampton County to Junious and Ruth Butler Nichols and was preceded in death by her previous husband, Alton F. Hill; her son, Elton Hill; and her sister, Jerline Diggs.
Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Edward Evans Sr.; her loving children, Marilyn H. Peet (Alfonso) of Windsor, Harriet Reynolds of Newport News, Samuel Duck of Sedley, Michael Evans of Windsor, Edward L. Evans Jr. of Baltimore, Donald K. Evans (Lisa) of Suffolk and Diane Evans of Woodbridge; three brothers, Charlie Nichols (Florence Lee), Fletcher Nichols (deceased wife Arlene) and Woodrow Nichols (Thelma).
A service of celebration was held Monday in Ebenezer Baptist Church on Ivor Road in Ivor, officiated by the Rev. William T. Smith.
Interment followed in the cemetery of Chapel Grove Church.
Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, was in charge of arrangements.
