Golden O. Griffin

COURTLAND—Zelphia Golden Outland Griffin, 85, died Nov. 15, 2007.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Johnson County, N.C., a daughter of the late James Milton and Isabel Little Outland.

Besides a wonderful homemaker, she had formerly worked at St. Regis, Birdsong Peanuts, The Tidewater News and Thomas Printing.

She was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Roy Anderson Griffin; one son Roy Anderson “Andy” Griffin Jr. and wife Sandy of Chesapeake; two daughters, Teressa Holt and husband Charles of Courtland, Anita Ballard and husband J.W. of Ivor;

two sisters, Myrtle Love of Durham, N.C. and Ruth Parrish of Goldsboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Roy A. Griffin III and wife Cindy, James “Bo” Powell, Lisa Lance, Derrick Holt and wife Beth, Lynn Blythe and husband John, Jay Ballard and Robbie Ballard; seven great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, T. Brooke Powell Michels; one sister, Lucille Woodall; and two brothers, Albert and Carl Outland.

A funeral service was conducted Sunday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Revs. Ernest Carey and Matt Kidd officiating.

Burial followed at Southampton Memorial Park.
