F. Lon Davis III

COURTLAND—Franklin Lon Davis III, 64, died Nov. 17, 2007.

Mr. Davis was born in Southampton County, the son of the late Adelle Barkley and Frank L. Davis Jr.

He was retired from Union Camp Corporation as a Quality Control Inspector after 40 years service, and a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.

He was an avid hunter and a former member of the Manry Hunt Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Davis; a step-daughter, Dana M. Hunnings and husband Ronnie of Courtland; a stepson, W. Dean Whitehurst and wife Jennifer of Franklin; one sister, Veronica D. “Ronnie” Claud and husband John T. Claud Jr. of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Madison, Connor, and Braeden Whitehurst and Emily Hunnings; four nephews, John T. Claud III and wife Christie, William F. Claud, Stephen M. Claud and wife Susan, Gregory D. Claud; three great-nieces, C. Blair Claud, Katie and Cortney O’Connor; two great-nephews, Justin D. Claud and C. Blake Claud; good friend and neighbor, E. Warren Beale Jr.; and his faithful companion, Abby.

A graveside funeral was conducted Tuesday in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Revs. Richard Gordon and Matthew Kidd officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to Courtland United Methodist Church, 22416 Main Street, Courtland, Va. 23837, or American Cancer Society, c/o Kathy Worrell, 717 Fairview Drive, Franklin, Va. 23851.
