FRANKLIN—Sue Overman Duck, 90, died Nov. 11, 2007, in Southampton Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Mrs. Duck was born in Courtland, a daughter of the late Ella Mae Yates and Gideon David Overman Sr., grew up in Holland, and moved to Franklin as a young woman where she met and married Needham Timothy Duck.

She was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a past deacon, was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and served on many committees. She was a charter member of Franklin Chapter of the OES and past matron, a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of the Franklin Southampton Historical Society, and a Girl Scout leader.

She was predeceased by her husband, N. T. Duck; her sisters, Virginia Howell and Minnie Mae Moore; a brother, Gideon David Overman Jr., and their spouses; and her brother-in-law, Jimmie R. Duck.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Duck Baum and husband Philip James Baum D.D.S. of Midlothian; three beloved grandchildren, Ellen Elizabeth Baum Rembold and husband Matthew Joseph Rembold of Quinton, Karen Susan Baum of Arlington, and David Timothy Baum of Midlothian and Newport News; her brother, Aubrey Yates Overman and wife Reata of South Glastonbury, Conn.; her sister-in-law, Alma Butler Duck of Franklin; her nieces, Carolyn Moore Branch and husband, Robert Branch Sr. of Forest and their family, Lillian Overman,

M.D., and husband Marcus Wilkinson of Marlborough, Conn., Barbara Duck Johnson and husband Tom Johnson of Chesapeake and their daughter; her nephew, Richard Duck and wife Harriet of Franklin.

She loved her family and especially her grandchildren who knew her as Mama Sue. She was a kind and thoughtful friend to many and will be remembered for her friendly smile and love of people.

The funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Franklin Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. James H. Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
