CAPRON—Charlie Henry Smith Jr., 84, a former resident of Henrico County, died Nov. 9, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born in Caswell County, N.C., a son of the late Florence Hope and Charlie Henry Smith Sr.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lydia Mixon Smith; a companion of 22 years, Louise Lucas; two sisters, Nannie Butts and Mary Dix; and two brothers, Albert and Elijah Smith.

An Army veteran, he was a retired beater room supervisor at the Federal Paper Mill in Richmond. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Abrahamien and husband Bill of Dinwiddie County and Jane Carol Perkins and husband Alan of King William County; four sons, Arthur Smith and wife Cheryl of Florida, John H. Smith and wife Karen of Capron, Jerry Smith and wife Brenda of Ohio and Ricky Smith of Dinwiddie County; one sister, Anna Rose of Yanceyville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to James and Hazel Rose and to Southampton Hospice, especially, Sandra, Natalie, Linda, Martha and Marsha.

A graveside service was conducted Tuesday at the Capron Cemetery with the Rev. Chad Brady officiating.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038.
