SEVERN, N.C.—Virginia Prince Barkley, 83, died Nov. 2, 2007.

Mrs. Barkley was born in Southampton County, a daughter of the late Eppa Beale Prince Sr. and Bessie Drewry Prince.

Upon her graduation from Longwood College, she taught for approximately 10 years in Waverly, Franklin, Oceana and Alexandria.

She was a faithful member of Severn Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Joseph Welford Barkley; two sons, Jody Barkley and wife Lisa of Ahoskie, N.C. and Bruce Barkley and wife Cindy of Holly Springs; one sister, Elizabeth P. Barnes of Severn; and three grandchildren, Meredith, Kathleen and Boone Barkley.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Eppa B. Prince Jr. and George Prince.

A funeral was conducted at Monday in Severn Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Hogan and John Dean officiating. Burial followed in Severn Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Severn Baptist Church, P.O. Box 502, Severn, NC 27877. www.wrightfuneralhome.
