Walter B. Cary

IVOR—Walter Burton Cary, 79, of the 6000 block of Proctor Bridge Road, died Oct. 30, 2007, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk.
A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Emma C. Cary and the widower of Viola Cary. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Lee Cary.
Mr. Cary was retired from Gwaltney Meat Packing Company, Smithfield. He was a member of Gilfield Baptist Church of Ivor.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Cary of Ivor; one son, SGM(R) Walter B. Cary Jr. and wife Audrey of Newport News; four sisters, Georgia Davis and Odell Warren of Ivor, Adell Bowers of Washington, D.C. and Florence Thornton of Lynchburg; one brother, Clarence Cary (Lula Mae) of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Dae Won Cary of Newport News, Crystal Cary of Hyattsville, Md., Darrin Cary (Candice), and Shern Cary of Newport News; four great-grandchildren, Eric, Alexis, Jada and Nazhae; devoted niece, Sadie Davis of Ivor; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral was to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, by the Rev. Larry Simmons.
Interment will be in the Cary Family Cemetery, Ivor.
Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, was in charge of arrangements.
