George D. McCoy Sr.

CHESAPEAKE—George Daniel McCoy Sr., 77, died Oct. 28, 2007.

Born in Miami, Fla., he was the son of the late David S. and Martha Christmas McCoy.

He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Baker and brother, Randall McCoy.

Mr. McCoy retired from the City of Chesapeake after 38 years of service. He was the superintendent for the Chesapeake City Garage.

He had also served as a Norfolk County and Chesapeake police officer who was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178, Chesapeake Khedive Shrine and Portsmouth Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances “Dunnie” McCoy; sons, George D. McCoy Jr. and wife Margaret Ann and Charles Royce McCoy and wife Shirley, all of Chesapeake; three grandsons, who affectionately knew him as “Pop,” Ryan McCoy and wife Wendy of Portsmouth, Adam McCoy of Chesapeake and fiancee Emily Cook of Smithfield and Shawn McCoy and wife Ashley of Clovis, N.M.; two brothers, Clarence McCoy and wife Mimi and David S. McCoy and wife Glenda; three sisters, Lenora Poduchny, Lydia Boalt and husband Fred and Mary Klemp and husband Gene.

The funeral was conducted Thursday in Deep Creek United Methodist Church. The Rev. Danny Kesner officiated. Interment followed in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.

Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or Deep Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund.
