The good people of Sedley came through when asked

To the Editor:

My name is David Johnson and my wife’s name is Dwan. From 1987 until 2004 we lived in Sedley as I was the pastor of Sedley Baptist Church.

Since moving to Bowling Green, Va., three years ago we have fallen on hard times and are struggling to make ends meet.

The people of Sedley heard about our plight and wanted to do something to help us.

So on Saturday, Oct. 20, the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department hosted a benefit dinner for my wife and me at the Sedley Fire House.

The response was overwhelming.

The money raised from the chicken dinner was far above our expectations and will definitely go a long way in helping us to pay our bills for the next several months.

Dwan and I take this opportunity to say thank you to the entire Sedley community for such a tremendous outpouring of love and support.

We especially want to thank the members of the Sedley Fire Dept. and of the community who made this event possible.

David and Dwan Johnson
