CHARLES CITY—Windsor pulled out a 26-20 win over Charles City on Friday in the Tri-Rivers District football opener for both teams.
The Dukes (5-2) jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never trailed but hung on at the end of the game when Charles City scored a late touchdown and attempted an onside kick. Windsor recovered the kick and ran out the clock.
Windsor head coach Bruce Carroll was not happy with his team’s performance.
&uot;We just didn’t get after it on defense. We didn’t block well on offense. We didn’t run hard and we didn’t tackle well. We just didn’t play well,&uot; he said.
Asked about the Dukes overlooking Charles City, probably the weakest team in the district, Carroll said, &uot;We focused on that not happening all week. It certainly shouldn’t have happened. We know they had enough athletes to beat us if we didn’t play.&uot;
Windsor has a key matchup at Sussex Central on Friday at 7 p.m.
&uot;We need to avoid that performance again,&uot; Carroll said.
