To the Editor:

With this being October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I would like to thank Southampton Memorial Hospital for their continuing support and efforts to educate our community about breast cancer.

This was evident at the recent “Healthy Woman Breast Cancer Awareness Event” held at PDCCC Workforce Development Center, there were more than 400 in attendance.

The event included a meal prepared and served by the dietary department staff of SMH, followed by informative speeches by Dr. Claire Carman, FACS and Dr. Charles P. Williams. As the facilitator of or local breast cancer support group, I was honored to be one of the speakers at this event. I was able to share about my ongoing breast cancer journey and our local support group.

The group is going strong and growing…and there is always room for more. The support group meets at 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Thanks again to all of those involved in educating our community. And remember to get your mammogram and think pink.
