NEWSOMS—Bernice Francis Vick, 88, widow of Currie Lee Vick, died Oct. 11, 2007.

Born in Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benjamin and Dora Bryant Francis.

Mrs. Vick, fondly known as “Grandma Vick” in the Newsoms community, was retired as supervisor of the Newsoms Elementary School lunchroom after 31 years of service.

She was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church, the WMU Missionary Circle, and the Golden Age Club.

Survivors include her son, Wayne C. Vick and wife Gloria of Newsoms; two grandchildren, Sherry Pope and husband David Earl, Denise Riddick and husband Tom; four great-grandchildren, David Earl Pope Jr., Daniel Thomas Riddick, John Currie Riddick and Joshua Wayne Riddick.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Ethel Vick and brothers and sisters, Clyde, Lona, Joseph and Queenie.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Newsoms Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Williams and Thomas Caulkins officiating.

Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

The family was to receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and other times at the home of Wayne and Gloria Vick, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms Baptist Church, P. O. Box 312, Newsoms, Va. 23874. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
