Minnie Diggs

BRONX, N.Y.—Minnie Diggs was born in Ivor, Nov. 22, 1918, to the late Lonnie and Millie Parker and died Sept. 28, 2007.
She attended public schools in Ivor.
After graduating from high school, she relocated to New York City in search of better opportunities.
Soon after, her childhood sweetheart Herman Collin Diggs followed her to New York City and they eventually married.
From this union four children were born, Barbara Diggs Sealy, Alvin Diggs (deceased as an infant), Jerald Diggs and Shelton Diggs were born in Harlem, New York City.
The family became members of Metropolitan Community United Methodist Church. Minnie was an active homemaker during the formative years of her children’s lives. She was a loyal wife and nurturing mother.
The family relocated to the Bronx in 1963 and Minnie lost her best friend and loving husband Herman in 1975.
She then became employed as a companion to the disabled. Over the last year, Minnie’s health declined and she was challenged with many health issues.
Despite her discomfort, she hung in there and fought a great battle until she departed this life Sept. 28, 2007, at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Long Island, N.Y.
Survivors include three children, Barbara Diggs Sealy, Jerald Diggs (wife Lisa) and Shelton Diggs; four grandchildren, Warren Sealy, Shelton Thomas Diggs, Angela Diggs and Elon Diggs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at noon Thursday at Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk. Interment will be in Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Ivor.
