COURTLAND—Marcie Lynn Bradley and Steven Paul Joynes were united in marriage at 5

p.m. Sept. 30 at Courtland United Methodist Church. The Revs. Lafayette Wilkins and Richard Gordon officiated the ceremony.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a silk satin gown by Marisa. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies tied with satin ribbon and accented with pearls.

The bride is the daughter of Marshall and Lynn Bradley of Franklin. She is the granddaughter of Carolyn F. Jernigan and the late Walter T. Jernigan of Lewiston, N.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Alvah E. Bradley of Ahoskie, N.C.

She is a graduate of Southampton High School and received a bachelor of arts in communication studies from Christopher Newport University.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael H. Joynes of Newport News. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Hopkins of Richmond and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Joynes of Hampton.

He is a graduate of Menchville High School and received a bachelor of arts in hospitality management and a minor in business administration from East Carolina University.

Katherine Leigh Bailey of Franklin, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Amy Campbell Davis of Courtland, Kerri Jo Alphin of Zuni, Kendall Ann Brooks of West Point and Julia Diane Jernigan of Clinton.

Their satin, strapless tea-length dresses were chocolate brown and accented at the waist with a pink sash. They carried a bouquet of varied shades of pink roses.

The groom chose his father, Dr. Michael H. Joynes, as best man.

The groomsmen were Michael Edward Joynes, Kendrick Darden Hopkins Jr., Kevin Matthew Mansfield, all of Newport News and Benjamin Hampton Morgan of Onancock.

Greeting the guests and presiding over the registry were Caroline Mayes, Dana Hopkins and Tracey Hopkins, cousins of the groom, all of Richmond.

The wedding was directed by Beth Cobb and Tricia Phelps, both of Franklin.

Prior to the wedding, the bride and groom were honored with an engagement party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Alphin and Kerri Alphin at their home in Zuni. A bridal brunch was hosted by Andrea Ellis, Barbara Wade, Linda Johnson and Holly Mein, at the Ellis home in Courtland.

A bridal shower was hosted by Carolyn Davis and Amy Davis at their home in Courtland. A bridal shower was hosted by Tricia Phelps and Beth Cobb at the Cobb home in Franklin.

On Friday, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Michael H. Joynes at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin.

On Saturday, a bridal brunch was hosted at the home of the bride’s parents by the bride’s grandmother, Carolyn F. Jernigan.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Airfield Conference Center in Wakefield where the bride and groom and their guests entertained with dinner and music.

Following their honeymoon at a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia, the couple and their bullmastiff puppy, Lucy, currently reside in Wilmington, N.C.
