Harry W. Shaw Jr.

FRANKLIN—Harry Herberner Shaw Jr., 92, of the Village at Woods Edge and formerly of Portsmouth, devoted husband of Gladys Bunn Shaw for 69 years, died Sept. 21, 2007 at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Shaw was predeceased by his parents, Harry H. Shaw Sr. and Sarah J. Sutton Shaw; six brothers, Francis L. Shaw, John F. Shaw, George R. Shaw, Charles F. Shaw, Paul H. R. Shaw, Julian Mizell; and four sisters, Carrie M. Shaw, Anna M. Janson, Neva Holliday Shaw, and Eva Holliday Watson.

He was a retired Supervisory Naval Architect from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years service, and member of High Street United Methodist Church.

He was on the Building Committee for the new Cradock Methodist Church, and on the Building Committees for the first and second units of Centenary Methodist Church in Portsmouth, and designed the shutters on the windows inside the sanctuary of Centenary Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Shaw Bowden and husband, Peyton, of Essex Junction, Vt.; two grandchildren, Stephen Todd Bowden of

Fairfax and Elizabeth Bowden Nuckols, and husband, David, of Essex Junction; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn E. Nuckols and Christopher R. Nuckols.

A funeral was held Monday at High Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating.

Burial was held Tuesday at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth.
