SUFFOLK—Gurney Jernigan Wilkins, 90, died Sept. 23, 2007.
Mrs. Wilkins, a native of Gates County, N.C., was the daughter of the late Ada Smith and Albert B. Jernigan and the widow of Lafayette T. Wilkins Sr.
She was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Blackwell and brothers, Sawnie W. and Albert B. Jernigan.
She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, The Woman’s Fellowship, Ladies Star Sunday school class and The Fellowship Club.
Survivors include her three sons, the Rev. Lafayette T. “Mugsy” Wilkins Jr. and wife Martha Brittle of Suffolk, Floyd E. Wilkins Sr. and wife Patricia Glover of Suffolk and Robert Melvin Wilkins of Gates County; sister, Etta J. Jones of Gates County; and brother, Mallie R. Jernigan of Suffolk; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Revs. Wayne Gardner and Jonathan Palmer with burial in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin.
