A native of Southampton County, she had been employed for 31 years as a licensed practical nurse for Sentara Nursing Center and was a member of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ, Chesapeake.

She was a 1965 graduate of I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, and received her degree as an LPN in 1976.

Survivors include her daughter and caretaker, Veronica D. Smith (Robert Sr.); two sons, Savovie R. Winstead Jr. and Cecil D. Mellanson Jr. (Jennifer); two sisters, Barbara A. Hill and Karen H. Bussey (George); two brothers, Vander L. Hill (Jean) and Elvis G. Hill (Karen); seven grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Emma Hill and Vander Hill.

A funeral was held Monday in Bethlehem Church of God in Christ, Chesapeake, by Elder Ronnie Edmonds. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, was in charge of arrangements.
