Florence B. Sode

WAVERLY—Florence Bishop Sode, 89, a life-long resident of Waverly, died Sept. 23, 2007, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

Mrs. Sode was the widow of the late John Edward Sode.

Born June 16, 1918 in Waverly, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Noni Westbrook Bishop.

She had worked as a hairdresser in Waverly for more than 50 years.

She was an active and devoted member of the Waverly United Methodist Church and long-time president of the United Methodist Women.

She served as a volunteer at Southside Regional Medical Center for many years.

Survivors include her son, Edward L. Sode and his wife, JoAnn of Greenville, N.C.; two daughters, Theresa S. Tune of North Richland Hills, Texas and Laurie S. Latham of Waverly; five grandchildren, Dr. Johnathan David Tune and wife, Mary, of Brownsburg, Ind., William Matthew Tune and wife Taylor of Weatherford, Texas, Christopher Robert Tune and wife Christa of Little Elm, Texas, Nathan Lloyd Sode of Greenville and Jared Daniel Latham of Waverly; four great-grandchildren, Johnathan Tune Jr., William Tune, Julian Tune, and Catherine Tune; and a sister, Helen Brown of Portsmouth.

She was predeceased by two infant sons, John Thomas and John Charles Sode; a grandson, Mark Sode; and son-in-law, Earl Tune.

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. in the Waverly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Connie Gibbs officiating.

Interment followed in the Waverly Cemetery.
