American flags need to be flown with dignity

To the editor:

It seems to me with all the money and labor that the City of Franklin utilizes in a given year, it could replace flags when ragged. If you drive around Franklin and look at all the city’s flagpoles, the flags look like they have just gone through the War of 1812. If a flag is going to be flown it should be flown with dignity and respect.

Sept. 11, the flags at Barrett’s Landing were lowered and raised back up the next day. They are so ragged it is embarrassing for Franklin. Our National Guard Armory does not even fly a flag anymore. What is up with that? There needs to be one employee that works for Franklin to be responsible for the city’s flags being raised, lowered and replaced. I hope that someone will take heed to this suggestion.
