CHINCOTEAGUE—A missed two-point conversion was the measure between Tidewater Academy’s fourth loss or its first win.
The Warriors scored a touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Casey Gay to Jake Adams in the third quarter, but Chris Grammer could not convert a two-point conversion run and TA lost a 20-19 heartbreaker to Chincoteague on Friday night.
Grammer set up for a pass play on the two-point conversion, but the route was not open. He ran the ball but was stopped short of the goal.
Chincoteague’s Jason Tolbert ran the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, but the Stallions (1-2) did not score again until the third quarter. Tolbert ran for a 50-yard touchdown and Timmy Johnson bolted 37 yards for Chincoteague’s final score. A two-point conversion run by Tolbert gave Chincoteague a 20-13 lead.
TA (0-4) also added a touchdown in the first quarter on a two-yard run by Jonathan Bussenger and another in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Grammer.
&uot; They played their hearts out, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them. The guys never quit. It’s a tough one,&uot; said Tidewater head coach Adam Thacker.
The Warriors play at Fuqua School on Friday.
