BLACKSTONE—The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers used their experience and size to outman Kenston Forest School 34-0 in a steady rain here Friday night.
The Chargers (3-0 overall, 1-0 Virginia Commonwealth Conference) scored in each of the first two quarters, and Kenston Forest (0-4) never came close to scoring, getting inside the IWA 30-yard line just once in the second quarter.
&uot;The whole game was out of whack,&uot; said Dale Chapman, IWA head coach.
The Chargers rushed for 336 yards and threw the ball successfully twice, while Kenston Forest was held to 85 yards rushing and 6 yards passing.
Senior J.D. Honeycutt scored the first touchdown in the first quarter from six yards out. Senior fullback Lance Moore scored from nine yards out in the second quarter. Honeycutt followed that with a 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Heath Price scored on a 12-yard run, also in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Rusty Brake ran in from 18 yards in the fourth quarter for the final score.
&uot;We probably would have liked to mix it up better between the pass and the run,&uot; Chapman said. &uot;But with the rain, we figured we would keep it on the ground.&uot;
Brake was the leading rusher with 146 yards on 10 carries. Honeycutt ran for 91 yards on 11 carries.
&uot;We’re glad to get the win on a night like this,&uot; said Chapman.
Isle of Wight hosts Brunswick Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
