NORFOLK—Bernice Elizabeth Brown Johnson, 70, of the 900 block of Albert Avenue, died Sept. 7, 2007, surrounded by family at her home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1937, to the late Marie Nelson and Clinton A. Brown in Norfolk. She was a 1954 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
She retired after more than 29 years of service from the Naval Supply Center as a transportation supervisor and was employed by Avis Rental Car as a billing clerk for 14 years.
She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she served in several ministries. She was a former member of the International Toast Mistresses Association.
She was predeceased by a son, Sherwood Johnson and a granddaughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Britton.
Survivors include her three daughters, JoAnne Johnson and Sharon Johnson-Clayton, both of Chesapeake, and Kimberly Johnson-Britton of Windsor; one son, Timothy Erskine Johnson of Norfolk; one sister, Evelyn Anderson of Chesapeake; one brother, Joseph C. Brown of New York City; two grandchildren, Eddie Johnson Clayton of Chesapeake and Sherwood Johnson Cross of Windsor; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Thursday in Olive Grove Baptist Church, 1034 Albert Ave. Dr. Kim Brown Sr., pastor of Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, Chesapeake, will officiate.
Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 914 Albert Ave. 30 minutes prior to the service for the procession to the church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel.
