N. Wayne Matthews Sr.

SUFFOLK—Norman Wayne Matthews Sr., 62, died Sept. 2, 2007, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
A Virginia native, he was the son of the late Norman and Lorraine S. Matthews. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Wayne Matthews and his half sister, Becky Gilreath.
Mr. Matthews was employed by Dominion Virginia Power as a turbine mechanic. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church, the National Rifle Association and Suffolk Masonic Lodge No. 30.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Matthews; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Dawn and David Shetterly of Gloucester; sons and daughter-in-law, Marshall A. and Shanna Matthews of Gates County, N.C. and Norman Wayne Matthews II of Williamsburg; stepson, Daniel Johnson of Windsor; 11 grandchildren; sister, Sandra M. Wyatt of Surry; half brother Mitchell Matthews of California; stepsister, Victoria Rudisail of Marietta, Ga.; uncle and aunt, Nick and Margaret Sarick of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Allen Lancaster with burial in the church cemetery.
