Why do you choose to live in Franklin/Southampton/Isle of Wight County?

My husband is from Franklin and Southampton.

I have come to love the country and it is a great place to raise a family.

If you had two weeks’ vacation and money were no object, how would you spend your time? A cruise to Hawaii and Alaska with my family

Favorite food: Udon (Japanese noodles)

Favorite weekend destination: The Outer Banks and Eastover Retreat on the James River

What’s the best life lesson you’ve learned, and who taught you?

My husband reminds me, “If you worry, don’t pray; if you pray, don’t worry.”

I have so many wonderful memorable days, that I can’t pick just one

To see children experience tragedy

What’s the most Southern thing you’ve ever done?

Visit with Miss Bernice & Flossie on their screened front porch in the country sipping cold drinks, catching the warm summer evening breeze while my children catch fireflies.

What’s your best childhood memory? Although I was afraid of Goofy and the dwarfs, going to Disney Land is one of my fondest memories.

I think my sister and I rode “It’s a Small World” at least five times.

Tell us one true thing. Children are gifts from the Lord.

What frightens you most? I am not frightened but I am always concerned about the safety and well being of my children in today’s society.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be and why? I’d like to live in my mother’s homeland, Japan, to see where she was raised, experience the culture and learn the language.

Who’s your favorite ex-president?

I have no particular favorite

If you could pass or change one law, what would it be? I would like to have legislation passed to allow registered dental hygienists the opportunity to practice independently so that more of the underserved populations could receive preventive dental care.

What last brought tears to your eyes? I became tearful reading a story about a little girl who had thought that her mother did not love her because she was given to her grandmother to be raised.

She later realized that her mother gave her up for the sake of love.

If you could invite three guests - living or dead, from anytime in history - to dinner, who would they be?

I would invite both of my mother’s parents and my father’s father.

What three objects would you take with you to a desert island? My Bible, and a couple of other books

What kind of music do you like, and who’s your favorite performer? Contemporary Christian music and jazz; some of my favorite performers are Casting Crowns, Ron Kenoly and Hiroshima

Tell us about a good movie you’ve seen lately and why you liked it?

The last movie I watched was Finding Nemo with my 4-year-old

Who’s a famous athlete or entertainer you admire?

I admire Michelle Kwan.

She seems to always win in character even when she is defeated in her sport.

What’s the last book you read? Boundless Love by Women of Faith
