Joseph C. Perkins Jr.

IVOR—Joseph Carey Perkins Jr., 68, died Aug. 27, 2007 at his home.

Born July 25, 1939, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Joseph Carey Perkins, Sr., and Audrey H. Butler Perkins.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Phyllis Owney Perkins; a son, J. Carey Perkins III of Williamsburg; three daughters, Tammy Lynn Perkins of Norfolk, Jennifer Perkins of Greenville, S.C., and Cheryl Perkins of Currituck, N.C.6; a stepson, James A. Watson of Williamsburg; a sister, Audrey Boyce of Chesapeake; and two grandsons, Lane M. Perkins and Liam C. Mann.

He retired in 1979 as Assistant Fire Chief, US Naval Supply Center, Cheatham Annex, Yorktown and formerly served as a Deputy Sheriff in Southampton County, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth.

He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1958 and as a member of the Army Reserves until 1963.

A graveside funeral service with military rites will be held Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
