CARRSVILLE—Hortense Saunders Fowler, 97, died Aug. 13, 2007, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Fowler

is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Quinton Fowler; a son, Vaughan Dashwood Fowler and her parents, Jessie Dashwood and Mabel Robinson Saunders.

She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Steven Vaughan Fowler, Kathryn Fowler Rion, and Joseph Franklin Fowler; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marie Fowler; one niece, Virginia Galtress; three nephews, Kim Parham, Wayne Saunders, and McKliney Saunders Jr.; and a special friend, James Earl McCaskey.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin by Drs. Richard Childress and Ira Hudgins.

Visitation will be at Franklin Baptist Church today from 6-8 p.m.

Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk is handling arrangements.
