COURTLAND—Ronald Eugene &uot;Ronnie&uot; Whitney, 53, of the 24200 block of Mallard Street, died Aug. 6, 2007.

A native of Southampton County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was predeceased by his father, Joseph W. Whitney Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Aretha F. Whitney of Courtland; five daughters, Jenetha D. Whitney, Eletha D. Whitney and Monetha D. Whitney, all of Courtland, Tina Johnson of Wakefield and Tasha Whitney of Danbury, Conn.; a son, Desmond E. Whitney of Hampton; mother, Corean E. Whitney of Courtland; two brothers, Leroy T. Whitney of Suffolk and the Rev. Joseph W. Whitney Jr. (Patricia) of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Zion Southampton AME Zion Church, Courtland, by the Rev. Christopher A. Eason.

Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be at Engram Funeral Home, Armory Drive Chapel, 1001 Armory Drive, Franklin. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Friday.
