Airfield would disrupt historical sites

To the Editor:
We, along with some members of the Historical Society, believe that the proposed airstrips would irreparably damage or destroy Southampton County historical sites which are important to the county, the state and our nation.
Area residents, we need your help.
If you are aware of an item of history that would be affected by any one of the four proposed county airstrips, we would ask that you call us at one of the numbers below and leave a message with the information.
Significant items might include old cemeteries, Civil War graves, one-room schools, historic landmarks and events.
We would like to place historic items upon county maps to show the impact of the airstrips.
Please call Rick Francis at 654-6333 or Lynda Updike at 654-6785.
Rick Francis and Lynda Updike,
Southampton Historical Society
