Two nominated for School Board vacancy

FRANKLIN—Two nominations were made Monday for the School Board’s Ward 5 seat during a public hearing at City Council’s regular meeting.

Shauna Moses’ term expired June 30, however, no nominations were made at last month’s Council meeting. She has served six years over three terms, and has been asked to serve until a replacement is found.

Clarence Baker of Mariner Street nominated Verta Jackson of Chestnut Street.

&uot;Citizens were polled in the ward about candidates, and I was nominated as the person to nominate her,&uot; Baker said.

He said that Jackson had worked in the IT department at International Paper and had a background in budgeting, purchasing and Web site building.

&uot;She is a 1997 graduate of St. Paul’s College,&uot; he said.

Morton Street resident Kent Pope nominated Maxine S. Wilson of Pretlow Street, also a 1997 graduate of St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Science and an associate’s degree from Paul D. Camp Community College.

Mayor Jim Councill thanked them for the nominations and said, &uot;We will set a date when the candidates can be brought in to interview.&uot;
