VIRGINIA BEACH—Myrtle Jean wood died July 2, 2007, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1925, in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. She was a retired elementary school teacher.
Survivors include 10 cousins, Mary Wood, Arthur Wallace, Stephen Wallace, Becky Fenska, Richard Brothers, Irving Jones, Lee Jones and Bobby Jones, all of Virginia, the Rev. Kenneth Wallace of Tennessee and Barbara Edwards of North Carolina; her stepmother, Ruth Wood; stepson, Daryl Hicks; and a longtime friend, Lois Tomlinson; all are residents of Ohio.
She was an active member and volunteer at Kempsville Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach. She was a member of the church’s JOY Club and “Singles on the Move.”
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Kempsville Presbyterian Church, 805 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 for Jean’s relatives and many friends to celebrate her life of Christian faith and many acts of charity and kindness.
Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Clothing Closet or the Deacon’s Funds – ministries of Kempsville Presbyterian Church. Jean chose to have her body cremated.
The ashes will be sent to Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville, Ohio. Following a brief graveside service, the ashes will be buried with Jean’s mother, Janet Kern Wood.
