COURTLAND—Two members of a Suffolk family are dead following a weekend single-vehicle accident on Route 58’s Courtland Bypass.
Fifteen-year-old Stephon Foster died Tuesday of his injuries, and his uncle, Kevin Donnell Foster, 43, died at the scene of the wreck on Saturday.
Both were passengers in the second seat of a Dodge Durango driven by Kevin Foster’s 17-year-old son when the boy lost control of the vehicle, slammed into a Jersey wall and flipped &uot;approximately two times,&uot; according to Virginia State Police Trooper B.R. Edwards.
Also injured were the driver and another front-seat passenger, both of whom were transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital with injuries. Three other passengers – including a five-year-old and a six-year-old who were sharing the third-row seat – escaped injury, Edwards said.
Kevin Foster was pronounced dead at the scene; Stephon Foster was transported by Nightingale helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Both had been ejected from the vehicle, according to Edwards.
The trooper said a reconstruction of the accident showed that the family had been traveling west on Route 58, about a mile west of Old Bridge Road, when the driver drifted to the left, overcorrected to the right, and then came back to the left, where he struck the concrete wall.
The boy was charged with failing to maintain control of the vehicle.
